HW#21       Ancient Rome  
1  Begin reading Chapter 10 on the Roman Empire. Look at map of Roman Empire. Name one obvious and remarkable fact about the Roman Empire, as shown on this map.
Read about the Roman Republic. Study  Model of City of Rome in your text, locating the most important sites. Write a one word summary of this city.
3  Keep reading. Describe Rome’s Architectural Revolution Diagram and label all Roman innovations.
4  Read both texts. Take notes on Roman portraiture. Define: verism (veristic), likeness, portraiture.
5  Describe what the discovery of Pompeii meant for study of Rome. List & make notes on the 4 styles of Pompeiin wall paintings found.

Read about the decline of the Roman Empire. 
List services & functions of the “Baths of  Caracalla.”
3  Keep reading both texts. Take notes on“Four Tetrachs”   List changes as700 years of Greco-Roman naturalism disappear in Venice
4   Make 1 or 2 notes on “Palace of Diocletian.”
5   Diagram  “Arch of Constantine” List a few notes about it.
6   Basilica of Constantine.  List main points made by author in text.
7   Read “Conclusion” Summarize the author’s viewpoint in one phrase. Look at Roman Time Line to review.
8   Print Architecture Study guide. Complete the chart up to and including Rome. Keep the chart at home with your textbook. Completed chart will be due April 2012.
